SARNIA—Unifor Local 914 members at Diamond Petrochemical Canada have ratified a new four-year collective agreement that delivers wage increases, a signing bonus, a new retirement benefit account and improved benefits.
“Energy workers keep this country running, and they deserve contracts that reflect the value of their work,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “This agreement shows what members can win when they stand together and bargain with the strength of the energy pattern behind them.”
The new agreement includes general wage increases of 3% in the first year, 3.25% in each of the second and third years, and 3.5% in the fourth year, along with a $2,000 signing bonus. Members also secured a new retirement benefit account, improvements to benefits, and improved on-call provisions. The agreement was reached under Unifor’s Energy Pattern Bargaining Program, which sets a standard for wages and working conditions across the sector.
“This bargaining committee came to the table with clear priorities, and members can be proud of what they won,” said Unifor Ontario Regional Director Samia Hashi. “Fair wage increases and real support for retirement make a difference for workers and their families in Sarnia.”
The 30 members, who refine a range of chemical byproducts at the Sarnia facility, voted to ratify the agreement on Oct. 29.
