ST. JOHN'S – Workers on the Terra Nova offshore oil platform are in contract talks as Suncor announced October 4, 2026 it will sell its interest in the project to UK-based Ithaca Energy. The collective agreement covering Unifor Local 2121 members on Terra Nova expired on September 30, 2026.
"A change in ownership does not change what our members expect. Bargaining at Terra Nova will continue, and it must reach a fair agreement for the workers who keep this platform running," said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
Nearly 120 Unifor members work on the Terra Nova Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel, located roughly 320 kilometres off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Local 2121 is also negotiating a first collective agreement for about 150 members on the SeaRose offshore platform, of which Suncor's 40% ownership stake will transfer to Ithaca.
“While Ithaca Energy is not the operator on the Sea Rose they now have a significant stake and we expect them to support getting a first collective agreement for our members as quickly as possible,” said Jenn Murray, Unifor’s Atlantic Regional Director.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers in every major area of the economy. The union advocates for all working people and their rights, fights for equality and social justice in Canada and abroad, and strives to create progressive change for a better future.
