On May 9, 1992, just before sunrise, a preventable explosion in a coal mine in Plymouth, Nova Scotia, killed 26 men. Thirty years later, Unifor Atlantic Regional Director Linda MacNeil, Health and Safety Director Sari Sairanen, along with other unions, health and safety activists, families and community members gathered at the memorial site to honour the lives lost and recommit to fighting for a safer future for all workers.

"Sometimes it may not feel, when you do safety drills or what have you, it doesn't feel necessary," said Linda MacNeil, Unifor Atlantic Regional Director. "But again, losing 26 lives, 30 years ago in one event in a mine, the devastation to the families, the community - we can't forget that."
