Unifor applauds a $141-million investment in Coca-Cola Canada Bottling’s Brampton facility, announced on Feb. 17, calling it a major boost for unionized manufacturing and long-term job security in Ontario.
“Investing in Canada is a no brainer, because Canada’s workforce is skilled, talented and dedicated—our biggest asset as a country,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne, joining provincial and industry leaders at the plant.
“Our food and beverage manufacturing members take pride in what they do and are proud of playing their part to build this great country through their work every single day.”
The investment will be used to expand Coca-Cola’s Brampton facility, transforming it into one of the most technologically advanced production hubs in the country.
At the heart of this expansion are the 900 Unifor members represented by Local 973. For them, this investment represents a concrete commitment to their future and their families.
"Amidst global economic uncertainty, investing in Canadian workers isn’t just a choice, it’s a necessity to provide the stability and job security Unifor members deserve," added Payne.
Unifor represents 13,000 workers in the food and beverage manufacturing and processing industry. This latest expansion will not only increase production capacity and packaging capabilities but will also ensure the Brampton facility remains at the cutting edge of the industry.
It’s a win for workers, not only at the Brampton facility, but for the broader community. The facility’s expansion will be built exclusively by Canadian tradespeople, with at least 75% of the materials sourced domestically.
“This investment will not only extend the life of this plant, but it is also a testament to the great work of our members and to believing in this country and all that is possible,” said Payne.
“On behalf of our members, thank you for investing in Canada and in Canadian workers.”
