As Saskatchewan heads into a crucial provincial election, three Unifor members are stepping up to represent their communities and fight for progressive change. Each Sask NDP candidate brings a unique background of experience and a commitment to amplifying the voices of working people across the province.

Brenda Edel, from Unifor Local 2-S, is running in Rosetown-Delisle, southeast of Saskatoon. Edel has been a tireless advocate for disability rights and equal access to services. As President of Barrier-Free Saskatchewan, she has lobbied extensively for long-overdue legislation to improve the lives of people with disabilities. Her extensive background in community organizing, including raising $500,000 for a CNIB Vision Loss Rehabilitation program, underscores her belief in the power of collective action to create meaningful change. "Real change happens when we take action for a fair and equal society," said Edel.

Fellow telco worker Jordan McPhail from Unifor Local 2-S is running in the northern constituency of Cumberland. Born and raised in La Ronge and a proud member of Lac La Ronge Indian Band, McPhail has dedicated his career to serving his community. "The Scott Moe government has failed northern communities. I am running to be a principled voice in the legislature for my community and stand up for working families," McPhail said. As a SaskTel Field Services Tech and town councillor for seven years, MacPhail has focused on bringing healthcare, opportunity, and infrastructure improvements to Northern Saskatchewan.

Unifor Local 649 member Mark Thunderchild is a candidate in Rosthern-Shellbrook, just north of Saskatoon. Thunderchild is a passionate advocate for living wages, accessible healthcare, and affordable childcare. His focus on public sector workers, along with his belief in amplifying the voices of those on the frontlines, has made him a formidable candidate in this election. "Healthcare is a top-of-mind issue in my constituency," Thunderchild said. “The Sask NDP has a solid plan to undo the damage done by the Sask Party and ensure that frontline staffing is a priority.”

Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle praised the members for their leadership and commitment: “Unifor members are dedicated to their communities and are doing the hard work to build a better Saskatchewan. Workers in these communities would be very well-served by Brenda, Jordan, and Mark.”
