July 7, 2017 Thunder Bay – A tentative collective agreement has been reached between Bombardier and Unifor Local 1075 representing workers at the company’s plant in this northwestern Ontario city. “This deal is fair to the Thunder Bay workers at Bombardier while ensuring the continued production of its transit vehicles,” said Unifor National President Jerry Dias. “The bargaining team worked very hard to get this deal, and I commend them for their work.” Details of the new collective agreement will be released after a ratification vote to be held on Sunday. Unifor Local 1075 President Dominic Pasqualino said the bargaining team kept the needs of the transit services they build vehicles for, including the Toronto Transit Commission, in mind throughout the talks. “We wanted an agreement that improves on our ability to deliver cars on time with the quality required, and is fair to the workers. We believe we have achieved that goal,” Pasqualino said. The bargaining committee is unanimously recommending ratification of the deal by Unifor Local 1075’s 900 members. Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
