TORONTO, May 31, 2016 /CNW/ - Pilots at Sunwing Airlines Inc., represented by Unifor Local 7378, have ratified a new collective agreement that breaks new ground for flight crew members.
"I would like to congratulate the bargaining committee and the Master Executive Council for their determination and loyalty to their members, this agreement could not have been reached without the support of the membership," said Joel Fournier, Unifor Director of Transportation.
The pilots were able to use the influence and experience of Unifor to reach a deal that exceeds parity with other pilots groups in the same industry, Fournier said.
The new contract is expected to begin the process of improving the relationship between Sunwing management and its pilots.
"We are pleased with having bargained a settlement that moves our members forward and recognizes the important role they play in the success of the business," Fournier said.
Unifor represents 380 pilots at Sunwing, operating from seven bases across Canada in Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton and various locations in Europe.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers, including 13,000 in air transportation and 46,000 across all transportation industries.
Unifor was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
