This was a great victory for members of Local 2289.

CMC Electronics workers in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, members of Local 2889, ended their two-week strike over a defined benefit pension plan.

“Our members have a lot to be proud of,” said Renaud Gagné, Unifor Quebec Director. “Not only did they succeed in maintaining the defined benefit pension plan for both current and future employees, but they also obtained other gains.”

The union was able to maintain the plan for all workers, with the employer backing off on its demand to impose an inadequate one.

In addition to resolving the main issue involving the pension plan, the union negotiated a three-year contract with wage increases of 5.75 per cent and the maintenance of health benefits paid for by the employer.
