Statement from Unifor National President Jerry Dias on the UAW vote in Chattanooga

"The hard work and courage of the Volkswagen workers to bring a union to their plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has been an inspiration to us in Canada," Unifor National President Jerry Dias said.

"We watched as they built an organizing drive based on wanting a voice in their workplace and building a stable future for their children. We held our breath for three days as they voted on whether to join the UAW in the face of an onslaught of intimidation and misinformation from Republican politicians who put ideology ahead of the needs of their people."

"The narrow loss will only strengthen the resolve of workers across North America. Working people are making their voices heard again, speaking out for good jobs and secure futures, and knowing that unions are the way to achieve that. Chattanooga has shown the challenges we face. But challenges only make us stronger, and Chattanooga reminds us how strong we must be -- and will be."
