The eight members of Unifor Local 591G at Shorewood Packaging have struck a new four-year deal with their Scarborough, Ont. employer.

“The members who work at this shipping location should be proud of the big gains made in this agreement,” Burke Moffat, President of Local 591G.

“This was a strong agreement that would not have been possible without the ground support from members who attended meetings and made their voices heard along with the hard work and commitment of the bargaining committee.”

The warehouse facility is owned by multinational parent company, Westrock, and produces print and packaging products. The members at Shorewood are categorized as “warehouse person,” which includes shipper, order picking and forklift operator.

In this new contract, which is retroactive from Jan. 1, 2023, to Dec. 31, 2027, members gained a wage increase of 3.25% in the first year, 3% in the second, and 2.5% in the last two years, including a boost to short and long-term disability. The wages will move from $21/hour to $24/hour by the end of the agreement.

Workers also gained an increase to safety boot cost allowances and eyewear, said Moffat.

The contract was ratified on Feb. 3, 2023.
