Agreement Ratified with VIA Rail
Dear Members,
Unifor Council 4000 and Local 100 are pleased to announce that members have voted to ratify a new collective agreement with VIA Rail.
This agreement, reached after a challenging round of bargaining, represents meaningful progress on wages, benefits, pensions, and job security for more than 2,000 Unifor members across Canada.
The three-year agreement runs until December 31, 2027, and includes annual wage increases of 3%, pension improvements with a 100% employer match on the voluntary contribution, and better benefits coverage in high-use areas such as massage therapy, psychology, chiropractic services, and orthodontics. Sick days are now frontloaded, with a payout option for unused days at year-end.
The agreement also strengthens protections against privatization through written commitments and transition guarantees, improves spare board stability with a 144-hour monthly guarantee, and delivers stronger language on contracting-out and crew calling procedures.
This result reflects the unity and determination of Unifor members, whose strong strike mandates and solidarity were essential to pushing back concessionary demands and winning these gains.
We thank every member who engaged in this round of bargaining and participated in the ratification vote.
Please stay connected with your local union representatives and continue to rely on official union channels for updates and information.
In solidarity,
Council 4000 and Local 100 VIA Rail Master Bargaining Committees
