Unifor and CPKC Negotiations Reach Impasse as Union Plans Strike Votes
Dear Members,
Unifor and CPKC met during the week of November 26-29 to continue negotiations on non-economic bargaining proposals.
Despite Unifor’s consistent efforts to present fair and reasonable solutions, CPKC showed no willingness to engage meaningfully with the Union’s key demands. The company’s refusal to take these proposals seriously has stalled progress at the table.
Unifor members have made it clear that they expect significant improvements on critical issues such as family-work-life-balance, working conditions and work ownership.
However, CPKC’s inaction signals a troubling disregard for the workforce’s priorities. This lack of movement underscores the Union’s growing frustration with the employer’s approach to these negotiations.
As a result, Local 101R will conduct strike votes across the country in the coming weeks. These votes are a necessary step to demonstrate the membership’s unity and resolve in the fight for a fair contract. The Union remains committed to achieving a deal that addresses members’ concerns and ensures a respectful working environment.
While the Union remains ready and willing to meet with the employer from now until the mediation and conciliation deadline of January 28, CPKC has only offered to meet during the final four days, from January 24-28. This limited window raises serious concerns about the employer’s commitment to reaching a deal.
Employer communications may not present the full picture, members are reminded to rely on Union updates for accurate information and to visit unifor.org/CPKCbargaining2024 for updates.
In Solidarity,
Unifor Local 101R Master Bargaining Committee
