Council 4000 and Local 100 bargaining committee resumed negotiations this week from Monday to Thursday with VIA Rail.

As mentioned in the previous RailLine, VIA Rail has served four estoppels and are refusing to take them off the table. Both Council 4000 and Local 100 are currently facing concessions. This is unacceptable to both bargaining committees.

As a result, talks between parties have broken down and we will begin necessary preparations of conducting strike votes across the country. Council 4000 and Local 100 will let members know about dates, times and locations of the strike vote meetings when they’re confirmed.

We need a strong strike mandate to push back against the employer’s concession. We are encouraging all members to vote “yes” and support your bargaining committees as they continue to fight for a contract that best represents the needs of our membership.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. If you have any questions with negotiations, please contact your bargaining committee members in your respective locations.

In Solidarity,

Local 100 and Council 4000 Bargaining Committees
