Council 4000 and Local 100 bargaining committee resumed negotiations this week from Monday to Wednesday with VIA Rail.

Council 4000 has significant work rules to work through, however VIA has served 4 estoppel’s and are refusing to take them off the table and both the Council and Local 100 are currently facing concessions. This is unacceptable to both bargaining committees and we will continue to pushback and have the concessions removed.

We feel that is best for us to begin preparations necessary in advance of conducting strike votes across the country. Dates, times and locations of strike vote meetings for the respective agreements will be announced to the membership once confirmed.

A strong strike mandate will assist your bargaining committees in showing the corporation that we have the full support of the membership in attaining a fair and reasonable contract. It is critical that our members support their bargaining committees.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. We want to emphasize the importance that should you have any questions concerning negotiations, these should be directed to members of your bargaining committee in your respective locations.

In Solidarity,

Local 100 and Council 4000 Bargaining Committees
