To all Unifor members at Bombardier,
By now, you have read the headlines about Trump's latest threats to ban the sale of Bombardier aircraft in the United States.
Since the President posted to social media, your union has been working hard to counter his threats. We’ve been in constant contact with Bombardier. We’ve opened up dialogue with the federal government. We’re also working with the wide range of sectors across the supply chain caught up in this latest escalation of the trade war. Protecting good Canadian aerospace jobs is our priority.
What matters most right now is that the President's threat against Bombardier would backfire on the United States, and Republicans know it. Many in Trump's own party immediately reminded the President that banning Bombardier aircraft sales would be a self-inflicted wound for American workers. They know Bombardier's manufacturing is tied to nearly 2,800 suppliers across dozens of states, including many Republican strongholds.
Our union will always fight threats from Washington D.C. against good Canadian jobs and our entire aerospace sector. Good-paying unionized aerospace jobs are what keep advanced manufacturing in Quebec, Ontario and across the country strong, and your union will fight every single day to defend them.
This latest threat is also another reminder that Canada needs a long-term industrial strategy that protects strategic sectors like aerospace, strengthens domestic supply chains and ensures that the aircraft and technologies of the future continue to be built here at home.
