Unifor welcomes 125 new members at The Nuance Group (Canada) Inc., located at Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

“A big welcome to our union’s newest members,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “These workers are employed in a bustling airport in one of Canada’s busiest travel hubs and like all workers their goal is decent work and fairness.”

The new Unifor members work as beauty advisors, in sales and delivery, specialty retail, warehouse workers, labourers, and MAC make-up artists. These members work in the duty-free stores at Pearson airport as well as other specialty retail stores that sell cosmetics and perfumes.

The key issues that propelled the workers to join Unifor include wages, sick days and benefits and improving working conditions for airport workers.

The organizing campaign began Sept. 2024 and members voted on Oct. 2 to 3 to join.

“We are thrilled to join Unifor—it’s truly a dream come true,” said Nuance worker Katie Makhlouf.

“With Unifor, everyone’s voice and concerns will be heard. Together, united, we will collectively change and improve our workplace for the better, as these have been long-term jobs for many of us. This is democracy and unity in action—our collective voice driving positive change. We have been eager for this moment, and now it’s about to happen with Unifor.”
