It is a fact of the Canadian labour market that the pay gap between men and women continues to define the lives of women in the workplace.
According to Statistics Canada, the wage gap in Canada is 28% for full time, full year workers. In other words, women make 72 cents to the dollar that men make. The wage gap is, in part, due to gender discrimination in the labour market. A number of Canadian provinces have enacted legislation to address the wage gap, with success. However, it still persists and is an important consideration in the fight for good jobs.
