Montreal, December 1st, 2019 – Since one minute after midnight last night, 1,400 members belonging to Unifor Local 728 have been locked out by their employer.

Despite the fact that the parties are still negotiating, the employer chose to apply the rule of “no contract, no work.” As soon as the collective agreement expired yesterday at midnight, a lock-out was declared. “It’s distressing to see the employer maintain this policy while talks are still going on and members are set to vote on a new offer tomorrow. But that’s how Paccar works and our members are used to it,” said Serge Dupont, Assistant to the Quebec Director.

This dispute comes on the heels of a week of intensive bargaining that ended with the workers rejecting the company’s offer in a proportion of 61 percent. The parties continued talks over the weekend and a new proposal will be voted on tomorrow. The main issues at stake in these negotiations are the pension plan and group insurance.

Paccar employs 1,400 Unifor members who manufacture Peterbuilt and Kenworth trucks.
