Provincial government spending directly affects the lives of workers in Ontario. Budgets represent the government’s priorities, and Unifor members are clearly stating what their priorities are.

“Participating in the budget process is an important way for Unifor members to share their priorities with government,” said Naureen Rizvi, Unifor Ontario Regional Director. “We must be clear about what our province needs; private and public sector workers alike rely on strong public services like healthcare and post-secondary education and cuts to these programs hurt us all.”

At a budget consultation in Dryden, Ontario, Melissa Wood, Local 598 member presented her perspective on what these priorities should be. She shared her experience of working in long-term care in Ontario, stressing the pressing need for immediate funding and a standard, dedicated four hours of direct, hands on care per resident per day.
