Pilots at the Gander, Nfld.-based Exploits Valley Air Services (EVAS) have voted in favour of a new three-year contract that contains significant monetary gains.

"Congratulations to the bargaining committee for reaching a deal that puts our aviation members first,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “There have been so many challenges across the entire aviation sector, and this agreement reached after serving strike notice shows our members are willing to fight to improve their working conditions."

The 18 members, who work as captains and first officers, are represented by Unifor Local 2002.

The new contract, which began retroactively from Feb. 5, 2024, contains a $5,000 increase across all salaries at ratification and an additional $5,000 on Feb. 5, 2025. In addition, there are annual increases in each year of the collective agreement with 3% in year one and 2.5% in years two and three.

There were also improvements to work-life balance, addressed issues related to flight duty time, and better contracting language.

EVAS is a small airline that transports cargo and helps with evacuations (medevac).
