NELSON MANDELA: 1918-2013

Nelson Mandela was a working class hero and an inspiration to all.

At home, Mandela forged the African National Congress into a powerhouse agent of change and was jailed because of his words and deeds.  But around the world his ideas refused to be trapped and Free Mandela posters hung in living rooms, churches, union halls and dorm rooms, inspiring a generation to fight for what's right.

When he walked out of Victor Verster Prison in 1990, he carried with him the promise to all of us that decades of struggle would soon come to victory, and showed us that great things were, indeed, possible.

When he sat down with his former white rulers to find a way for South Africa to move forward together, Mandela showed us all that only through peace and love could there be a safe future not only for South Africans, but for any peoples in struggle.

The world is a richer place for having had Mandela in it. His story is a timeless inspiration. May all struggles continue in his honour.
