Negotiations between Unifor Local 252 and Voith Hydro resumed on January 30, as strike action entered its twelfth week.
“These members are fighting against concessions that will hurt their pensions and reduce the benefits that they have worked hard to earn,” said Ontario Regional Director Naureen Rizvi.
In past negotiations Voith tabled several concessionary proposals included reducing benefits from 100 per cent to 80 per cent, the elimination of the Cost of Living Adjustment and no increases to pension during the life of the collective agreement.
On January 29, Rizvi delivered a $5,000 donation on behalf of the Ontario Regional Council to help support the striking members.
Voith manufactures hydro power station equipment, primarily for hydro dams around the world. The facility also repairs and maintains the equipment that it manufactures.
The 35 workers began strike action at Voith’s Mississauga, Ontario location on November 14, 2019 after delivering a decisive 100 per cent strike mandate to their bargaining committee.
