Unifor retirees play an active role in the union by participating in political action and community activities, and providing key support for fellow members.

“Our retired workers are engaging in their union, their communities and with each other to make a real difference,” said Barb Dolan, Unifor Retired Workers Director.

The annual National Retired Workers Council will take place September 2-7, 2018 at the Unifor Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario.  Delegates from across the country will come together to receive updates on the union’s campaigns and activities, debate resolutions, be informed by guest speakers and share ideas and strategies for the upcoming year.

In a celebration of labour the delegates and their families will join with union leadership and Grey Bruce Labour Council affiliate members as they participate in the Port Elgin Labour Day parade. In what has become an annual tradition, the marchers and members of the community are welcomed back to the Family Education Centre to enjoy a BBQ and festivities.

The Council represents more than 38,000 Unifor retirees from across Canada. The involvement of retirees in Unifor is growing, with ongoing efforts to create new Retired Workers Chapters and Area Council’s across the country.

“Retirees contribute a wealth of skills and experiences both to the labour movement and to society,” said Dolan. “We believe you retire from the job, not the fight and our retired workers prove it.”
