Unifor Local 444 members are pleased after giving their unanimous seal of approval to ratifying a new deal with the City of Sarnia that covers workers at Sarnia Public Library and the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

“Congratulations to the bargaining committee, that showcased Unifor’s professionalism, credibility, experience and strength,” said National President Lana Payne.

The ratification vote took place Feb. 18.

In the new contract, the 40 workers – who work as librarians, art gallery workers, maintenance, courier drivers and maintenance workers – in this unit will get a notable 9.75% salary increase over the lifetime of the x-year agreement, reduced time required for earned vacation weeks, and enhanced benefits.

The agreement also includes substantial language and process modifications.

“The committee fought hard to secure a commendable pay raise, enhanced benefits, and crucial language and process changes, resulting in an agreement that truly values our members,” said Local 444 President Dave Cassidy.
