Unifor Local 324 members have ratified their first contract with Weechi-it-te-win Family Services.  The new four-year contract covers approximately 30 workers who provide services at the Indigenous based child welfare agency near Fort Frances, Ontario.

“We are thrilled to have this new group as part of Local 324,” said Unifor Local 324 President George Smith. “As indicated by the strong 88 per cent ratification vote, many of these new members recognize the major improvements and security they will enjoy with Unifor and their new contract.”

The new agreement includes 7.25 per cent in total wage increases over the life of the contract, increased employer pension contributions, strong seniority language, 14 annual statutory holidays, 15 annual sick days, expanded paid leave, a generous retirement allowance, and improved benefit coverage. The contract also contains an option to utilize First Nations elders in a mediation role for grievances.

“This deal will provide long-term stability for Weechi-it-te-win Family Services and allows our members to focus on providing critical services to Anishinaabe residents across Northwestern Ontario," said Unifor National Representative Stephen Boon.
