CALGARY, June 18, 2014 /CNW/ - A petition demanding the federal government allow temporary foreign workers (TFW) to stay in Canada will be delivered to Minister Jason Kenney's office in Calgary by a broad coalition of TFW advocates.

"Unifor believes in good jobs and equal rights. As it stands, the Temporary Foreign Worker program accomplishes neither," said Joie Warnock, Unifor's western director. "If these workers are welcome to work in Canada, they're welcome to stay in Canada."

The Temporary Foreign Worker Support Coalition is comprised of labour groups, migrant worker activists, community groups, citizens, and temporary foreign workers.

Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. With more than 305,000 members, Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector.
