Media advisory - THURSDAY - National survey results on domestic violence at work to be unveiled in Ottawa and London

LONDON, ON, Nov. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Findings of a ground-breaking year-long survey about the prevalence of domestic violence and its impact in the workplace are being released on Thursday at 10 a.m. at two simultaneous press conferences in Ottawa and at Western University in London, Ontario.   

The Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children (CREVAWC) at Western's Faculty of Education and the Canadian Labour Congress partnered to conduct the nation-wide survey, 'Can work be safe when home isn't?' asking 8,429 workers about domestic violence and support measures at work. Outreach was largely conducted through unions, with approximately 80 per cent of respondents being union members.

Unifor Women's Department Director and study steering committee member Julie White will be speaking at the press conference to address the issue of domestic violence from a union/ workplace perspective.  White will be speaking about the role of the union in supporting those who are living with domestic violence and workplace measures that can help support women leaving abusive relationships.
