TORONTO—Unifor will join members and supporters for a solidarity rally on Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. to support Unifor Local 252 on strike at Nestle’s Toronto manufacturing plant.

“It’s been nearly three weeks since our workers went on strike and Nestle has refused to budge on pension improvements and the time it takes to get to the top rate of pay,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.

“We are knee-deep in an affordability crisis and our members, living in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, deserve a contract where they can go to work and not worry about paying their bills or their retirement security.”

What: Rally to support Nestle workers on strike

Who: Unifor Ontario Regional Council Secretary-Treasurer Balkar Bains, Local 252 President Eamonn Clarke, Local 252 members and supporters.

When: Thursday, May 23, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time

Where: Nestle, 72 Sterling Road, Toronto, Ontario, M6R 2B6

The 461 Local 252 members at the Toronto Nestle plant began strike action on May 5, major issues included   lack of improvements to their pension plan and the grow-in rate for new employees. The plant produces Kit Kat, Aero, and Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, as well as Smarties. The members work as machine operators, bar packers, shippers and receivers, general labourers, and in Skilled Trades. There have been zero advances in bargaining and currently no negotiation dates planned.
