VANCOUVER, Oct. 6, 2015 /CNW/ - Union members and concerned citizens will rally today to oppose the new trade deal signed by Stephen Harper has signed during the federal election.
"We need a new prime minister that puts good jobs in Canada first," said Joie Warnock, Western Director of Unifor. "Stephen Harper is wrong if he thinks he has a mandate to sign risky international agreements when a clear two-thirds of the Canadians don't support him."

Unifor economist Jim Stanford has estimated that up to 20,000 Canadian auto manufacturing jobs are at risk if the TPP is enforced. Many more sectors, such as forestry, will see tariff changes under the TPP. The full text of the TPP has not been made publicly available.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
