TORONTO, June 11, 2015 /CNW/ - A coalition of professional associations, media unions, educational institutions, newspaper publishers and broadcasters will launch an advertising campaign highlighting the value of professional journalism. The campaign launch will feature presentation of newspaper, television and online advocacy ads scheduled for placement beginning on June 13.

Who:     A coalition of professional associations, unions, educational institutions, media corporations and industry associations.
Speakers will include:
  Welcome from Ivor Shapiro, Chair of Ryerson School of Journalism
  Lana Payne, Atlantic Regional Director for Unifor and columnist for The Telegram in St. John's NFLD
  Mary Agnes Welch, former chair Canadian Association of Journalists
  Chantal Hébert, newspaper and broadcast journalist
When: Friday, June 12 at 10:00 AM
Where: Rogers Communications Centre, 80 Gould Street. Room RCC 103
Why:    The campaign aims to rally the wider community of journalists and others working in the media, media corporations and media consumers to increase awareness and support for the contribution that professional journalism makes to building an open, democratic and engaged Canadian society.
