FORT MCMURRAY, Sept. 16, 2016 /CNW/ - Unifor Local 707A members ratified a collective agreement with Suncor on Friday after months of challenging bargaining. The deal will cover nearly 3,400 members.

"We consider this a good deal for our members and are glad to see it ratified," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. "These members in Fort McMurray have endured so much this summer, and I congratulate the bargaining committee and local leadership for all their hard work amid unbelievable personal challenges."

In addition to the forest fires in Fort McMurray, the oil and gas industry has been enduring tough times economically.

"A new deal allows us to move forward with a sense of security for the future and is in keeping with the pattern we've set for this group," said Dave Moffatt, Assistant to the President of Unifor.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
