Premier Stephen McNeil,
On behalf of Unifor, Canada’s largest private sector union, I want you to know that our 315,000 members including our more than 13,000 in Nova Scotia stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) and the other unions and workers in the education sector who have expressed profound concerns with the Glaze Report.
In 2016 we supported the efforts of teachers to negotiate a fair collective agreement, and today we support their efforts to protect the public education system from becoming a failed experiment. If there is this much resistance from parents and education stakeholders, there must be a problem.
We are deeply concerned your government appears incapable of working to find consensus whether it is with unions at the bargaining table or with stakeholders in education or health care. It is a troubling trend.
Please re-consider your path with respect to implementation of the Glaze report and work with teachers and students and parents to develop a plan that builds better education for all Nova Scotians.
