HS Télécom to close regional office

Some fifty employees of HS Télécom in Estrie and part of Montérégie, who are members of Unifor Local 2009, received bad news with the announcement that their employer will be closing their regional office effective July 31.

“No one saw this announcement coming and the workers are very upset,” commented the president of Local 2009, Philippe Lavoie. According to the information provided to the union, HS Télécom apparently “lost” the contract for this region with its only client, Videotron.

“The employer never approached us to try and develop a plan to save these jobs. We will be putting in place the necessary measures to support the workers, notably through the reclassification assistance committee. All options will be considered to minimize the impact of the closing,” explained Sébastien Pageau, Unifor’s national representative assigned to the file.

HS Télécom has been active in the field of telecommunications for over 30 years as a subcontractor for Videotron in the regions of Quebec City, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Bas-St-Laurent, Victoriaville and Trois-Rivières. The company employs approximately 250 unionized employees across its establishments.
