The concept of ‘climate justice’ first came to being in the civil rights movement in the U.S. in the 1960s, which was then coined in 1989 and subsequently supported by grassroots organizations and climate activists.
The relevance of ‘climate justice’ in discussing employment trends and precarious work comes in the form of the Green Jobs Movement, which champions green jobs as a new source of employment, especially for disadvantaged communities and groups. The discussion around green jobs has subsequently moved more prominently into the Canadian sphere.
