MONTREAL – Unifor’s Media Council Conference will host a special guest speaker with a unique perspective on how to save local news. Advertising revenues are shrinking, forcing local newsrooms to shut down and leaving communities unable to access information that is important to them. Under this growing threat of extinction, local news organizations must find new and creative ways to survive and thrive.

Members of the media are invited to attend a keynote speech at the 25th Media Council Conference by Jason Alcorn, VP of operations for the American Journalism Project (AJP). The AJP is the first venture philanthropy organization focused on local news. Alcorn is an award-winning journalist and the project director for NewsMatch, an annual matching gift and capacity building campaign that has helped to raise more than $14 million for non-profit news organizations in the U.S. since 2016.
