Unifor Local 8300 members working in environmental, housekeeping and laundry services at Compass Group for the Hillel Lodge long-term care facility in Ottawa have ratified their first collective agreement. Members will see substantial wage increases as well as an additional statutory holiday in this two-year agreement.

Hillel Lodge workers joined Unifor and ratified their first agreement in 2021. When the company contracted out their environmental, housekeeping and laundry services to Compass Group in 2023, those members also chose to unionize with Unifor.

“The hard work done by the bargaining committee and members at Compass Group at Hillel Lodge show that we can win when we stick together, even when employers change the playing field,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “Congratulations to the team for protecting your union rights and standing together to improve your working conditions.”

Unifor Local 8300 represents 20 members in this unit.

“This agreement feels like a fresh start for these members after years of uncertainty and change,” said Unifor Local 8300 President Kathleen Brooks. “We’re proud to represent workers at Compass Group at Hillel Lodge and look forward to continuing to support them in shaping their working conditions.”
