WINDSOR— The eight-week long strike action at Clear Medical Imaging has ended with Unifor and the employer agreeing to binding arbitration. Unifor Local 2458 members will return to work starting on December 30, with full return on January 2, 2025.

“While we would have preferred to obtain a negotiated agreement, it became clear that arbitration was a necessary step to obtain a first collective agreement for these workers,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “We are confident in our case and look forward to delivering the gains that these members went on strike to achieve.”

The decision to move to arbitration comes after the union and employer failed to reach an agreement after working with a provincial conciliation officer for more than three months and members soundly rejected a forced vote initiated through the Ontario Labour Relations Board by 96%. The company and union will meet with the agreed upon arbitrator in March 2025 to resolve outstanding issues.

“Our members stood together these past two months and remained steadfast in their determination not to settle for less than they deserve,” said Unifor Local 2458 President Ken Durocher. “I want to express my thanks to the members for their solidarity and to the bargaining committee for persevering during these negotiations.”

The Unifor Local 2458 members work as X-ray, ultrasound and nuclear medicine technologists, clerical and administrative staff across 11 locations within Windsor, Chatham, Tecumseh, LaSalle and Essex. Strike action began on October 25, 2024.

Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers in every major area of the economy. The union advocates for all working people and their rights, fights for equality and social justice in Canada and abroad, and strives to create progressive change for a better future.
