Unifor members at long-term care facility Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Truro, N.S. have voted to ratify a new collective agreement that secures wage increases, improved retirement benefits, and stronger protections against inflation.

The four-year contract includes wage increases ranging from $2.42 to $5 per hour over the term of the agreement based on job classification and years of service. The agreement also includes enhanced shift and weekend premiums, recognition for Licensed Practical Nurses, and increased RRSP contributions.

A new “Me Too” clause ensures that if other publicly funded long-term care employers or the Nova Scotia Health Authority negotiate higher general economic increases during this period, those higher rates will be applied to Cedarstone members.

“This agreement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff at Cedarstone who provide essential care every single day,” said Unifor Atlantic Regional Director Jennifer Murray.

“By securing strong wage increases and a ‘Me Too’ clause, we are ensuring that these workers aren’t left behind and that their compensation remains competitive with the rest of the long-term care sector in Nova Scotia.”

The new agreement also includes Paid Education Leave (PEL) and improvements to language regarding holiday pay and job posting procedures.
