Educator and Curriculum Development for Workplace Training and Paid Education Leave Programs
The Unifor Education Department designs, develops, and delivers courses, conferences, and written materials for members. Programs are guided by a feminist, anti-racist, class-based, activist-oriented approach that is participant-centred and grounded in principles of active adult learning. This writer/educator position is primarily responsible for curriculum design and development, workplace facilitator training, and administration of the Workplace Training Program delivered across Unifor’s Detroit 3 workplaces. In addition, this position incudes responsibilities to support course development and training for Unifor’s Paid Education Leave and Area Courses programs.
Applicants will show demonstrated ability in the following areas:
Curriculum design and development
Content knowledge: labour unions, labour history, political economy, human rights, and social justice.
Adult Education: deep knowledge of adult education principles and practices gained through education, training, and practice.
Peer Training: Training peer facilitators in core facilitation skills and content-specific programs; providing feedback to peer facilitators.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience in collaborative design.
Strong relationship development skills with the ability to build and maintain both formal and informal networks.
Ability to travel; some evening and weekend work required.
The successful candidate will have the following experience:
Experience as an educator
Experience working with unions/social justice organizations
Extensive experience as curriculum writer (samples of course design and written materials will be requested from short-listed candidates)
Knowledge of adult learning & instructional design principles and an ability to create innovative approaches to learning
Experience developing synchronous and asynchronous e-learning including proficiency in digital course authoring tools and learning management system
Post-secondary degree or diploma in adult education/instructional design or other relevant education
