Unifor recognizes the valuable contribution of equity-seeking groups within the union. Women, racialized workers, Aboriginal workers, LGBTQ, workers with disabilities, young workers and others, bring to the union inspiration, innovation and dignity.
Members of equity-seeking groups hold leadership positions and staff appointments, but not in sufficient numbers. Unifor promotes the activism of equity-seeking groups, and their involvement in the affairs of the union.
The union’s struggle for justice, respect, and dignity cannot be limited to fighting the bad boss or pushing the government for legislative changes. It must also include taking a look internally, within our union, to consider how members are included, represented and most importantly, how we can create opportunities for equity representation of our membership.
