Unifor has been campaigning for years to close loopholes that have let a black market in off-dock shipping thrive.
"Unifor members have fought hard to close the loopholes that created a thriving black market for off-dock shipments in Metro Vancouver," said Gavin McGarrigle, Unifor Western Regional Director. "We will use the consultation to ensure that no trucker loses in this process and companies that break the rules are punished."
Unifor is the largest labour union in Vancouver's port trucking sector. Container truckers shut down Port Metro Vancouver for nearly four weeks in March 2014 as a result of undercutting by trucking companies and long wait times at the port.
