Recognizing International Human Rights Day
Conflicts, deprivation, gaping economic disparity and discrimination have created a Human Rights crisis. People are turning in desperation to voices exploiting their fears and creating division because so many leaders the world over have failed to effectively address the root causes of their insecurity and suffering.
Human rights are the answer to failed policies and failed leadership that doesn’t act in the interests of the people. They are the great equalizer because they are rights possessed by all by virtue of our humanity. It is time to stand up for economic and social rights, civil and political rights, and the right to development.
On International Human Rights Day, take a stand for more humanity not less. Get active. Get Political. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, an LGBT person, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence. These are Canadian values. These are our values.
