You ask, we listen

When we hear from members about struggles with workplace issues. We act. Below are answers to some of the questions we’ve received from members at Local 104.

1. What has Unifor done in my workplace?

We responded immediately to issues in the workplace by:

  • working with your Local Executive to adjust how Shop Stewards and the Local President handle grievances; and
  • establishing monthly Labour-Management Meetings to ensure a frequent and established channel to talk with the employer about what needs to change in your workplace.
2. Why should I stay a member of a Canadian union?

Unifor National President, Lana Payne, has established relationships with governments at every level and with every forestry corporation and industry. As a Canadian union, Unifor is leveraging these relationships to build a national industrial policy for forestry that will protect good forestry jobs and increase Canada’s competitiveness in an increasingly competitive global market for wood and wood products.

The UBC actively petitioned to impose punishing tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber, hurting Canadian softwood producers. Under Trump, the softwood tariffs could get even higher – up to 40% or more! With most of its membership in the U.S., will the UBC stand up for Canadian workers and their families?

Unifor will fight for you and only you.

3. How many forestry workers does Unifor represent?

Unifor is Canada’s forestry union, with more than 22,100 members working in sawmills, pulp and paper mills, wood manufacturing and more.

4. What is Unifor doing for other forestry workers?

Unifor members are setting the standard for the forestry sector with:

  • Higher wages
  • Better benefits
  • Real pensions
  • Strong health and safety language
  • Job security
  • Respect in the workplace
5. How do I learn more about my union?

Learn more about your union, Unifor, at unifor.org and find us on Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and BlueSky.
