Dirk Tolman

Dirk Tolman is the current Chairperson of Unifor’s Energy Council. He works as a heavy equipment operator at Suncor Energy’s Oilsands Mine in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Tolman is a member of Unifor Local 707A, where he serves his members as Chair of the Suncor Baseplant/Firebag unit. He is also a past president of the local.

He began his mining career with Suncor in 2008, and began representing workers in 2011 as a steward, and a few years later as the chief steward in mine operations. He was also active with Unifor Education as a discussion leader.

Tolman was elected chair of the Energy Council in 2023, after serving as its vice-chair for the previous three years.
