Chris Garrod

Rail Sector

Chris Garrod is Unifor’s National Executive Board member for the rail sector. 

Garrod began his career in the rail sector as a general laborer in 2001. In 2005, he began training as a locomotive mechanic and received certification as a heavy-duty equipment technician. 

The railroad has been a part of his entire life with his family having over 100 years of combined service in the industry.

Garrod became involved in union representation as a member of the Symington LRC health and safety committee, and soon became Chair of the committee.  He has also been a shop steward, area representative, member of the Manitoba skilled trades council. 

In 2014, he was elected to the position of vice-president of Health and Safety and Legislative Coordinator for Unifor Local 100.

Currently, Garrod is a member of the VIA Rail Policy Health and Safety Committee and Chair of the CN Policy Health and Safety Committee.

He continues to stand up for a safer and healthier work environment, and represents all Local 100 members, to improve Canadian workplace health and safety legislation.

Originally from Winnipeg, Garrod currently resides in Vancouver.
