OTTAWA, March 7 /CNW/ - Unifor National President Jerry Dias will speak to the House Committee on Trade on Tuesday morning, emphasizing the need for meaningful consultations with all Canadians on the deal to address some very real concerns with what was negotiated.

"It is vital have an honest, evidence-based look at the deal, with full input from Canadians, to determine if it helps or hurts our economy," Dias said.

"The number one concern needs to be good jobs at home. We don't believe this deal delivers that."

A Unifor study last fall calculated that weakened regional content rules in the TPP will ultimately threaten 20,000 well-paying jobs in Canada's auto sector alone.

"The TPP will allow vehicles and parts mostly made in non-TPP countries such as China and other countries to have much greater access to North American markets," Dias said.
