Nestlé Purina Mississauga Plant Closure
Nestlé Purina’s decision to move the production of pet food to the United States will result in the closure of the Mississauga production facility in April 2019.
At least 100 Unifor workers will lose their job, many of whom have spent their whole working lives with Purina.
Purina has produced pet food in Mississauga for consumption in Canada since 1967. The workers are proud of the high Canadian standards and quality of the food they prepare for our country’s four-legged companions.
Why would a profitable company like Nestlé choose to move production for Canadian consumption to the U.S. only to export the product back to Canada? It is not because the plant is in financial trouble or because of logistics.
