78 workers from Twin Lakes Terrace Long Term Care Community have voted overwhelmingly to join Unifor.

"The 78 workers at Twin Lakes Terrace Long Term Care Community have made a powerful decision to join Unifor,” Lana Payne, National President of Unifor Canada. “This organizing victory reflects the unity and determination of these new members to fight for better working conditions and a stronger, more equitable workplace."

The newly organized members at Twin Lakes Terrace Long Term Care Community represent a diverse group of workers, including Personal Support Workers (PSWs) responsible for providing essential care and support to elderly residents. The workforce also consists of dietary workers, including skilled cooks, who play a crucial role in nourishing the residents and housekeeping staff, responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents.

The decision to join Unifor was driven by shared concerns that had been impacting the well-being and job satisfaction of the workers. Key issues included scheduling, wage disparity, respect in the workplace, workload, and persistent staffing shortages.

“By coming together and supporting one another, these workers demonstrated their resolve to create positive change and advocate for better working conditions,” said Payne.

Throughout the campaign, the spirit of solidarity and unity among the workers at Twin Lakes Terrace Long Term Care Community was evident. United under Unifor, they now have a stronger collective voice to negotiate with the employer on wages, benefits, and working conditions. Additionally, they will have access to a vast network of Unifor members across various industries, enabling them to draw upon the expertise and experiences of workers across the country.
