Unifor recently hosted a forum at the Local 229 office in Thunder Bay to discuss ways to better use registered practical nurses in the healthcare system, with invited guest from the Registered Practical Nursing Association of Ontario (RPNAO).

“We appreciated the work that they do as the professional association that is able to articulate the value of using nurses to their full scope of practice,” Local 229 President Kari Jefford said.

Guest speakers included RPNAO Director of Professional Practice Annette Weeres, RPNAO Nursing Practice and Outreach Specialist Beth McCracken and Unifor Ontario Regional Director Katha Fortier, who is also an RPN.

The forum focused on the current challenges and successes in nursing practices in Northern Ontario including long term care, acute care hospitals, and primary care clinics.

The Forum also heard about an RPNAO survey on issues that help or hinder RPNs being fully utilized in their workplaces. To complete the survey, go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YB3RGHM
