Unifor endorses Whitby-Oshawa NDP candidate Trish McAuliffe

OSHAWA, ON, Oct. 20, 2014 /CNW/ - Unifor National President Jerry Dias has announced the union's unequivocal support of Whitby-Oshawa federal NDP candidate Trish McAuliffe.

"Durham region would benefit from electing Trish McAuliffe as the Member of Parliament for the area," said Dias. "Trish is an outstanding community advocate, pressing for decent jobs, services for seniors and a strong health care system. Her progressive voice and advocacy would not only be good for the residents of Durham region, but for the whole country."

Dias committed the support of the union to get McAuliffe elected on November 17. He said described the effort as part of the union's goal of supporting and electing strong, progressive candidates.

"We know that Trish McAuliffe can make a real difference and we're dedicated to helping to get her elected," said Dias.

The federal by-election for Whitby-Oshawa was announced on October 12.

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 305,000 workers in every sector of the economy. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
